DT Miller leaves UConn
Jarrell Miller, who became UConn's highest-rated recruit when he committed to the Huskies in December 2006, has left the program, according to an e-mail released by the school's sports information staff on Wednesday.Defensive tackle
Miller, who would have been a redshirt freshman, arrived at UConn last spring after originally committing to North Carolina in summer 2006. He enrolled at the school but left before taking a single class, choosing instead to spend the year at Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy.
The e-mail cited "personal reasons" for Miller's departure.
Miller, a four-star recruit, was expected to be a key reserve at defensive tackle this season. He arrived in Storrs as a linebacker, bulked up to defensive end and then moved inside.
UConn head coach Randy Edsall alluded to the possible loss of a player this week at Tuesday's Big East media day festivities in Newport, R.I., though the two situations are not necessarily connected.
Miller's departure accompanies news that redshirt freshman Aaron Bagsby will undergo surgery on his knee on Wednesday and will not be able to participate in spring practice. Bagsby, a safety, played in the Huskies' season-opener against Duke last season but missed the rest of the season due to a foot injury.
Also, defensive tackle Brandon Dillon has officially rejoined the team, while defensive end Mike Cox will miss fall camp as he recovers from a knee injury suffered this spring.
