EL PASO - On a rainy Thursday night on El Paso's westside, the Coronado Thunderbirds (2-1) rained down big play after big play as they rolled past the Chapin Huskies (0-3) 45-7 at Thunderbird Stadium. Coronado's defensive line led by Colorado verbal Eddy Lopez harassed Chapin QB Seth Gonzales all night, which kept the Huskies dangerous skill players at bay.

Chapin started the game out quickly as Leaundre Williams returned the opening kickoff out near midfield, after a couple of first downs the Huskies drive stalled and they'd turn the ball over on downs. Coronado quickly struck with their first big play as QB Mickey Courtney found a wide open Josh Brady behind the defense for a quick 7-0 T-Bird lead. Chapin would again move the ball into Coronado territory but again the drive would stall, this time in the red zone. The Coronado big play machine went to work once more with Courtney hooking up with speedy WR Brannon Bogan on an 85 yard catch and run for a 14-0 lead.

Chapin would finally capitalize on a drive midway through the second quarter as Gonzales hooked up with Brandon Bullitt on a 10 yard scoring pass to make the score 14-7 and put the Huskies right back in the game. The Huskies would get an interception on a Coronado screen pass and it appeared they might be able to tie the game up before half. However, the game turned on a dime as Gonzales on a third and goal was picked off by Coronado LB Tim Black who would rumble 95 yards the other way for the score making it 21-7 Coronado. Chapin appeared out of the game at that moment and never seriously threatened again.

Coronado would give Chapin a heavy dose of running back Bobby Chacon in the second half as he picked up the vast majority of his 112 yards in the second half and notched both of his touchdowns from 16 and 37 yards out as the Thunderbirds outscored Chapin 24-0 in the second half.
