Tigers land big-time QB
AUBURN | Auburn desired a talented quarterback in the Class of 2014 and have landed exactly that.
"I talked to Coach Malzahn this morning. I knew when I visited I knew Auburn was the best place I visited and the best fit for me. i puled the trigger and committed," White said.
"I told him I wanted to play for him the next four years and I committed to Auburn University. He was very excited and super fired up and told me how pumped he was and he can't wait to get me on campus. He was fired up."
White held offers from Cincinnati, Houston, South Florida, West Virginia and more. White's offer list was growing after being named the No. 1 quarterback at the Elite 11 competition and earning MVP honors at The Opening.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound White visited Auburn five days ago. He knew then where he wanted to spend the next four years of his life.
"The family atmosphere and the great atmosphere they provide were important," said White. "Playing in the SEC and in big games very week. They have the whole package."
Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee recruited White to Auburn. The two have built their relationship over the last two months.
"He's an unbelievable offensive coordinator and great offensive mind," White said. "He's one of the reasons I want to go to Auburn, the way he coaches and his relationship with his quarterbacks and he's a guy I'm comfortable with and I'm excited to play for him."
The offensive scheme under Malzahn and Lashlee appears to be a perfect mesh with White's skills. He's thrown for 4,878 yards and 58 total touchdowns the last two seasons.
"The way they attack the defense in different ways -- it keeps the defense off balance," White said. "The ability to attack and be balanced on offense and put up points. Coach Malzahn and Coach Lashlee can score. I look forward to leading the offense and scoring many points."
White now turns his attention to recruiting. Before he arrives at Auburn to lead, he wants to lead on the recruiting trail and acquire top talent for the Tigers.
"If you're a quarterback commit, that's the job you take. You build the rest of the class. In South Florida, I know many kids down here and kids will want to come play with me. The other kids they want, I'll get in touch with them too. I want to be an ambassador to the program."
The recruitment of White was undoubtedly about to skyrocket after his West Coast performances, and it still might. But White maintains he will remain firmly committed to Auburn throughout the process.
"I'm committed to Auburn, that's where I'm going to school," said White. "I know I'm blowing up and getting other offers, but Auburn is the place I want to go. It doesn't matter who else offers, Auburn is the best place in the country."
White is ranked the No. 22 pro-style quarterback currently in the Rivals.com rankings. White's only scheduled return visit to Auburn at the moment is for the Iron Bowl.
