The Monday Morning Kickoff

The commitments kept coming last week for the Rutgers football program while action continued on the hardwood for the RU men's hoops team in the JSBL. The Monday Morning Kickoff gets you caught up on the latest news and set for a new week in the scarlet nation.

Commitments continued to roll in last week for the Scarlet Knights as the class of 2013 added two defensive ends. The first came only hours before the 4th of July when University School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) product Nick Internicola became the 13th prospect to commit to the current RU class.

"It was just something I wanted to do," Internicola said. "I have been thinking about it for a while. No other school compared to it. It's what I wanted."

Internicola's teammate Skai Moore currently has Rutgers in his top two along with Vanderbilt and there is a good chance that the high school teammates will continue to play alongside each other in college.

Rutgers also continues to do very well with another Florida product, American Heritage defensive back Bryant Gross, who has RU in his top three along with Purdue and LSU.

The second commit of last week was a bit closer to home as Rutgers rolled the dice on a prospect who has not played football over the last two seasons. Barringer's Kemoko Turay has been a standout basketball and track athlete during his high school career and will now turn his attention toward football.

Turay impressed the Rutgers staff enough at its summer camp to warrant an offer and committed while on a visit last Thursday.

"Being a Division I player, it feels wonderful," Turay said. "It makes me dedicated to work even harder. It's very exciting to be a part of Rutgers. I want to show how dedicated I am to the team, how supportive and hard-working I can be to help them become champions."

Another week of action at the shore tips off tonight when Ned Stevens Gutter Cleaning, featuring Myles Mack and Wally Judge, takes on Seaview Jeep, led by Eli Carter and Greg Lewis. Game time is set for 7:15.

Junior college transfer Vince Garrett is also on Ned Stevens, but he won't be making his JSBL debut tonight due to academic obligations. Garrett could play for Stevens on Wednesday night against Larson Ford.

Tomorrow, Investors Savings (Dane Miller and Jerome Seagears) will meet the NJ Tarheels (Austin Johnson and Malick Kone) at 7:15. Seagears left last Monday's game with a sore achilles. In the nightcap, Sterns Trailer, with current Knights Mike Poole and Derrick Randall, as well as former star Jonathan Mitchell, will take on Team Shore.

Scarlet Nation will be on hand at St. Rose tonight and tomorrow providing live updates
