Power rankings: Coach K returns to top

The new name atop the Rivals.com College Basketball Power Rankings is a familiar one.

Duke's ability to rally from a 16-point deficit Wednesday in a 79-73 triumph over North Carolina helped Mike Krzyzewski regain his status as the nation's No. 1 coach in our weekly power rankings, which measure the nation's top performers at each position.

The Blue Devils beat North Carolina despite trailing 43-29 at halftime. That marked the largest halftime deficit Duke has erased in the history of the storied rivalry. Duke followed up its 33rd consecutive home victory by winning 81-71 at Miami on Sunday.

"The coaches came in and told us what we had to do to win," Duke guard Nolan Smith told reporters after the North Carolina game. "They told us the adjustments we had to make -- adjustments that were in the heart and in the head, just toughness and doing what we had to do offensively just to execute. And we did those."

Krzyzewski took over the top spot in the coach rankings from Ohio State's Thad Matta, whose team fell 71-67 at Wisconsin on Saturday for its first loss of the season.

Smith's 34-point performance against North Carolina also helped him remain the nation's No. 1 shooting guard. Smith also scored 18 points against Miami.

There were no other changes atop the power rankings.

BYU point guard Jimmer Fredette, Texas small forward Jordan Hamilton, Arizona power forward Derrick Williams and Ohio State center Jared Sullinger stayed atop their respective positions. Sullinger also maintained his status as the nation's No. 1 freshman.

The biggest change in the rankings this week involved Florida State's Chris Singleton, who was removed from the small forward rankings after fracturing his right foot Saturday during a 63-56 victory over Virginia. The injury could knock him out for the rest of the season. If Singleton plays again this year, he will return to the power rankings.

This week's power rankings take into account all results through Sunday's games. The rankings put a special emphasis on recent performances while also taking career achievements into consideration.
