Thomas to play in Senior Bowl
Daniel Thomas has been selected to participate in the 2011 Under Armour Senior Bowl and will play for the North squad in the annual collegiate all-star game.Kansas State senior running back
The 62nd annual Under Armour Senior Bowl will be played at 3 p.m. CT on January 29, 2011, inside Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The game and its week-long practice sessions will be televised live by the NFL Network.
"Daniel was one of the best backs in the entire country this season," Senior Bowl President and CEO Steve Hale said. "He was tops in the Big 12 in rushing this year, which says a lot considering the conference was loaded with talented running backs. We can't wait to see him perform in front of the entire NFL here in Mobile later this month."
Thomas, the 40th player in K-State history to play in the game and the eighth running back, was a Doak Walker Award semifinalist, a First Team All-Big 12 pick by the Associated Press and Second Team All-American by Rivals this season after leading the Big 12 in rushing for the second straight year.
Thomas becomes the first Wildcat since 2008 (Jordy Nelson) to play in the Senior Bowl, while the last running back to do so was Thomas Clayton in the 2007 contest.
Last season's Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year, Thomas recorded the second-most rushing yards in a season at K-State with 1,585 this season, which is also a new record for a senior back, and ranked eighth nationally. He also led the Big 12 with 19 rushing touchdowns, one shy of the school record.
His 2,850 career rushing yards rank second all-time at K-State, while his 30 rushing touchdowns rank fourth, his 12 career 100-yard performances rank second and his 269-yard outing at North Texas in the 2010 regular season finale was the third-most ever by a Wildcat running back.
