Phillips wants to know why

In the heart of Rebel Country, Oxford, Miss., native Montez Phillips made the tough decision in early August to abandon his hometown team and commit to Mississippi State.

But with Saturday's news of Sylvester Croom resigning, Phillips could have a change of plans depending on which coach the Bulldogs hire.

"Yes it's going to affect my commitment," Phillips said. "I'm going to start looking at everything else and checking out everybody else."

The three-star wide receiver said he found out the news shortly after it happened Saturday morning.

"Somebody called and told me Saturday morning," Phillips said. "I was just shocked and surprised. I just want to know what happened and why he resigned."

Phillips is going to meet with MSU offensive line coach J.B. Grimes this afternoon at Lafayette County High School to discuss things further.
