Aaron Williams is backing up the hype
When cornerback Aaron Williams committed to Texas back in February, there was little doubt that the Longhorns got themselves a premier player. Williams backed up the hype with a dominating performance at a Texas mini-camp in June, and the next question was whether or not the Round Rock McNeil standout would be able to carry the momentum into his senior season?
Eight games into the year, Williams has more than held his own, and he put his talents on full display in Friday's loss to Round Rock. In that contest, Williams recorded a staggering 27 tackles to go along with 1 interception, 1 blocked kick, 1 forced fumble and an 86-yard kick return for a touchdown. Williams can also get it done on the offensive end, where he's rushed for 242 yards and 14 carries on just 29 carries.
"I try to play hard every game to help my team win and I also expect to do good so that pushes me," Williams said of his strong efforts. As for last week's sensational showing, the speedy playmaker didn't realize he was involved on so many plays until he saw the final stat sheet, and he was more concerned with seeing his team come up on the wrong end of the scoreboard.
"It felt like just another game," Williams said. "We should have won. We'll just have to come out next week and play harder."
