Oregon roundup: Beef and speed

The weekend belonged to Stanford. On Saturday the Cardinal landed verbal commitments from linebacker Joey Alfieri of Jesuit High in Beaverton, Oregon, Georgia safety Kirk Tucker, and California linebacker Bobby Okereke. Alfieri and Okereke were both Oregon targets.

It's the new reality for Duck fans who follow recruiting: Oregon has reached the level where they compete for the top players in the country versus the top schools in the country. Dozens of four and five-star players have the Ducks on their list. Scan the Oregon watch list that Rivals' senior recruiting analyst A.J. Jacobson maintains, and you'll see now that when the Webfoots lose out, they're losing to Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Michigan and Clemson. And Stanford. It's a list peppered with top programs and recruiting's heaviest hitters, schools with 80-90-100,000-seat stadiums and in some cases, multiple national championships.
