Sophomore QB to visit with Eagles

Mackay Lowrie is only a sophomore but he's making a name for himself as one of the top quarterbacks in Virginia. Boston College's coaches are keeping an eye on him and will be hosting him later this month.

The state Virginia is home to four-star quarterbacks Christian Hackenberg, Ryan Burns and Bucky Hodges from the current junior class, so it's unlikely that a sophomore is going to be stepping out of their shadows any time soon.

Coaches are recruiting earlier than ever nowadays, however, and the Eagles seem to like a sophomore signal caller from the state.

Trent McSorley is a 6-foot, 170-pound quarterback that can beat a defense with his arm or his legs and he will see BC for the first time soon.

"I'm going up there with Matt Rolin," McSorley told EagleAction.com. "We're just going up there to check it out. I've got some camp letters and stuff from them and I got a letter from Coach Siravo.

"I've heard good things about Boston College. I know my dad was real good friends with Spenser Rositano so we know good things about the school. We've had cousins go there so there's definitely good interest."

Of course, Rositano was an all-state selection coming out of Stone Bridge in Virginia before making a big impact as a freshman for the Eagles in the fall.

BC isn't the only school taking an early look at McSorley.

"There have been a few other schools that have sent me information, like Duke, North Carolina and UVa," he noted.

"I would say I'm really interested in Boston College just because I like the school and I like the area. Other than that I like UVa, Duke and North Carolina. I'm interested in all of them."

McSorley started as a freshman and a sophomore for Briar Woods. This past fall he passed for about 2,100 yards with 22 touchdowns through the air and 10 rushing touchdowns.

McSorley describes himself as a dual-threat quarterback and said he has run the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds.
