Young off to hot start

Whether it was a sophomore slump, or whether his knee injury from last season proved to be more serious than anyone let one, Sam Young has started the 2007-08 season off with a bang. He has back-to-back 20-point games, establishing career-highs in wins over Houston Baptist and now North Carolina A&T.

Young came on to have a career game at West Virginia last season. Tonight, Young led all scorers with 24 points and 11 rebounds. He had 22 points and nine boards the previous night. In tonight's win, he also set a career-high with steals (four) and three-pointers (four). It was his third career double-double, and the 10th game of his last 13, scoring in double figures. On paper, his play has been a welcome surprise. The coaching staff is more impressed with other aspects of his game that those in the crowd might not see as close.

"You look tonight at the stats and you'll see his shooting was great, "Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon said. "I continue to be impressed with things like his defense, his leadership and the way he's approaching things when out on the floor. He works very hard at being the best he can be, but also at making his teammates around him better, which is fun for a coach to watch."

Though it's early, Young is averaging 23 points a game. Is it possible for him to keep up at this pace?
