Pullman Practice Report
Television crews, sports writers, students, construction workers and former Cougar stars Mkristo Bruce and Jason Hill all showed up to watch the first of 15 spring football practices yesterday. And all those who did see the practice were treated to 22 periods of promising football drills and scrimmages.
The practice opened up with quarterback Alex Brink running an offense consisting of Michael Bumpus, Brandon Gibson, Benny Ward and Dwight Tardy, while backup quarterback Gary Rogers led a quartet of Finas Rabb III, Keith Rosenberg, Greg Walker and Chris Ivory.
Bumpus and Gibson, who are projected to be a dangerous duo in the upcoming season, looked particularly sharp catching balls and making cuts.
This was the first practice for two new coaches, Marty Long and Steve Broussard.
Long, who will be a defensive-line coach this season, led the defensive-linemen in five-man mod sled drills. Among those participating in these drills was Aaron Johnson, Matt Mullennix and Ropati Pitoitua. All three linemen missed a considerable amount of games from injury last season and all three are pivotal to the Cougars' defense this season.
