Monday notebook: Jenkins in the lead?

When Florida redshirt freshman Jelani Jenkins, who is built like an outside linebacker, started taking snaps at middle linebacker this spring, many were surprised. When he started to get more first-team reps than the other players at his position, some dismissed it by saying it was only spring.

But now, it's really starting to look as if Jenkins has found a home at middle linebacker.

And if the season began today, the former five-star recruit probably would start. At least, that's the logical conclusion one could draw after listening to linebackers coach D.J. Durkin speak Monday morning.

"Jelani is running with the ones right now," Durkin said. "Jelani's a very, very talented football player. Loves football. Practices well -- [he's] having a great camp. Competes really well."
