from Josh Newman at the Asbury Park Press: re: Michaela Mabrey
Even though it turned out to be a dud of a recruiting process with an end that saw them verbal early to the obvious choice, the hot topic this time last spring was where Neptune seniors and Rutgers freshmen-to-be Shakena Richardson and Syessence Davis would end up. About 10 months after those two verballed to C. Vivian Stringer, we have another Shore star that is readying to begin the recruiting gauntlet.
Manasquan junior guard Michaela Mabrey will be taking three unofficial visits in the coming weeks. Photo courtesy of ESPN HoopGurlz Per a source, we’re told 2011 All Shore first team guard Michaela Mabrey has set a few unofficial visits. The 5-foot-11 Mabrey, who led the Shore Conference in scoring each of the last two seasons, has day trips set to Rutgers (April 18) and Villanova (April 20) in addition to plans to head to South Bend to check out 2011 national finalist Notre Dame (April 26-28).
Besides those three schools, there are plans to see the University of Maryland in July. The date(s) for Maryland are still TBD, but conventional thinking says Mabrey will see College Park between July 22-25. During that time, her New Jersey Demons AAU squad will be playing at U.S. Junior Nationals, part of which takes place at the Comcast Center on the Maryland Campus.
We should note that this is not a final list of top suitors for Mabrey. In fact, there is no list presently. What these four schools represent as it stands right now is Mabrey keeping her options open heading into July. Unless she goes to one of these campuses (or another one later for that matter) and is blown away with what she sees, I would not expect an early verbal. In contrast to the fact that everyone assumed Richardson and Davis would sooner or later commit to Rutgers, nothing regarding Mabrey’s choice appears imminent. That’s just my two cents.
