I think it was BeK who once explained on this board that no matter how great a player is, if Hoopgurlz hasn't seen them play, they only get rated at 40.

In another way of looking at that same phenomenon, you have to give RU's recruiting effort credit for finding and signing the kind of young woman and player Breezy seems to be.

It wasn't me, but I'm pretty sure that's right.

Shoni hasn't decided yet, but here's a nice article about her:

I think on or around May 15.

Just read the article. Wow! Hope she comes here. Are the two possible JUCO players bigs?

Not encouraging.

Getting Shoni would be huge. The potential is there for her to be a difference-maker as a frosh (though that is no guarantee of anything)

Not getting a single post would be bad. Deree Fooks would have been nice, but if her academics aren't in order, what can you do?

This is off target, but I hope Agnus can get some players to replace the three that transfered. She is a good person and deserves better. After clockgate she was the only coach who made public her opinion on how the situation was handled.
Her assistant took the HC job at LaSalle in Phila. (A-10) So I wonder where those three transfers are going. It would make no sense for them to transfer to LaSalle as the school is a bottom feeder in the conference and the team plays in a gym. I would say they are one step below Seton Hall in fan support. It will be interesting to see where they land.

According to Breezi's tweets, she signed to attend Rutgers at 12:26pm today. Her reply, life is good. One on board, next please.

Posted on 4/14 6:17 PM | IP: Logged

Very precise of her.

And I see she's got a Rutgers hoodie on in her photo.

Posted on 4/14 6:22 PM | IP: Logged

Destiny Mitchell....
Has narrowed her decision to East Tennessee State and St John’s.
We can only hope the Shonnie Schimmel will make Rutgers her choice!

Shoni is wearing that shirt because she's using it for practice and the Rutgers shirt is in the laundry and tattered from overuse. That's what I keep telling myself.

Why is she waiting so long to decide? Her season and the college season have been over for awhile now and I don't see how she could be waiting to see who signs where in the spring. Will she make any more visits? Did she verbal already and is waiting for the right moment for an "announcement?" She has been quiet throughout the process, as opposed to some who call major press conferences to celebrate their decision.

If Kristina Danella is a transfer, would she be eligible this season? We can't go into the season with only eight players. I understand Stringer's strategy to bring in 2011 players, I only hope that some key players have RU at the top of their lists.

I think that if Shoni signs we will have nine, and, if not, one of the above-mentioned players will complete the roster, if they have the patience.

Posted on 4/15 8:22 AM | IP: Logged

Danella wouldn't be eligible next season if she came to RU.

From what I can tell, here are the players still on the list of potentials:

Class of 2010: Schimmel

JC transfers: Ashmeade, Brown, Fooks

I feel like there was a post with more information on Ashmeade and Fooks, but I can't find it now.

Posted on 4/15 11:23 AM | IP: Logged

My questions:

Fooks: Does she still have time to improve her grades and if so, how soon?

Ashmeade: Although we know little about her, does she have an upside? Can she stuff the middle on defense, rebound, and set picks? Give us 5 minutes to rest Chelsey and Mo? Big question: can she pass Stringer's fitness test?

Brown: Would be a nice get. Does anybody have any reliable information that shows a connection with Rutgers?

Posted on 4/15 11:40 AM | IP: Logged

just wondering. where did anyone hear that kristina danella was transferring? hadn't heard any chatter about that down the shore here.

Posted on 4/17 11:43 AM | IP: Logged

Some 2011 recruiting news.

No. 10 in 2011, 6'3 Kiah Stokes is considering Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, Notre Dame, Purdue, Rutgers, Tennessee but is still open.

No. 21 in 2011, 6'4 Temi Fagbenle is considering California, Connecticut, Columbia, Duke, Maryland, Penn, Princeton and Rutgers but is still open.

Posted on 4/17 11:45 PM | IP: Logged

Well, at least we're in the mix.

Posted on 4/18 5:45 AM | IP: Logged

Western Pennsylvania standout Anna Kestler has Rutgers in her top schools.

Posted on 4/19 5:52 PM | IP: Logged

I don't know how to post the link, but on espn.com HoopGurls, there was a write up about Shakena Richardson from Neptune in the class on 2011. It was pretty accurate.

Posted on 4/21 9:05 AM | IP: Logged

I saw it, too, and expect her to move up in the Hoopgurlz rankings.

I would really like to see Shakeena play for RU!!!

Posted on 4/21 10:27 AM | IP: Logged

From Hoopgurlz
As of 4.19.2010 Shoni has added Colorado, Washington and BAYLOR to her list of schools.
Baylor..????????chairshot

Posted on 4/24 8:54 PM | IP: Logged

She actually added those 3 schools back in Feb. Nothing new.

Nneka Enemkpali(2010) just decommited from Texas according to ESPN. anyone think we can get in on this?

Posted on 5/14 12:33 AM | IP: Logged

Interesting, to say the least. A quick search didn't find any other schools she'd been considering before.

Posted on 5/14 2:31 PM | IP: Logged

Nneka Enemkpali is a 2011 recruit. There is nothing linking her to RU, but then there is very little on her floating around in general.

Her buddy Krystal Forthan, from the same AAU team, is another 2011 texas big with no known leaders. Forthan is being guided in the process by Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil, who some may remember was an assistant coach here for a year, before returning to Texas due to her mother's health problems. Some feel that CDW will never steer any players to UT as there was some animosity there when GG showed up and CDW was not retained on the staff. If CDW and CVS are still friends, I'd love to get in on the Forthan action, who 6'4 and plays above the rim.

Shoni Schimmel is . . . still undecided. The latest ESPN article lists Louisville, UCLA, and Oregon as her 'leaders' with Rutgers as an also mention. Of course, that list is from back in April since no one around Shoni has talked to the media since. "Sources" apparently denied that she has any academic problems and is simply taking her time.

Posted on 5/27 12:24 PM | IP: Logged

Jesse: Some interesting possibilities regarding Forthan. I believe that she gave Texas A&M a verbal but decommitted, but I am not sure. Hoopgurlz lists her as uncommitted. Also I thought I saw (where, I don't know) that she had Rutgers, Tennessee, and A&M on her list. She previously lived in New York City and the Northwest US, and was most recently staying with Clarissa in Texas. Don't take my word on any of this as I can't back it up with facts or articles.

Hoopgurlz has her listed as #5.

So, where is Clarissa currently coaching? Would she now be under consideration to fill Hughey's position at Rutgers (with or without Forthan)?

Posted on 5/27 2:35 PM | IP: Logged

Clarissa is coaching TeamXpress, the AAU team that the two above mentioned players play for. I would doubt she'd come back to RU, but stranger things have happened.

According to some poster on an Oklahoma board, Krystal had a picture up on myspace of the Scarlet Knight mascot and a caption that read "my future school". That was, however, while CDW was here. Rutgers and Tenn are listed as having offered her in a couple different places, including in an interview with her, so I figure we at least have an offer on the table for her.

Just noticed that RU has been mentioned in association with Brittany Boyd, a west coast Point Guard. We are not in the list of schools that hoopgurlz lists as leading for her. I doubt we have a shot.

Posted on 5/27 4:23 PM | IP: Logged

A note on Schimmel - she does have academic problems of a sort, in that apparently she's still hoping to get into Stanford, but didn't make the cut in the fall. In other words, by normal standards she has no academic issues at all.

Posted on 6/2 10:20 PM | IP: Logged

From what I have read it seems that Shoni really has her heart in Stanford, which may explain the delay. The question is, will she go JUCO or sit idly until she receives an answer from Stanford (if September comes without an acceptance ?) While the school takes something like ten percent of applicants, someone with her resume should get in with acceptable grades.

If Stanford does not accept her, will she be unhappy wherever she plays? If Stanford does accept her, just how good will they be (I don't want the answer LOL)?

Great questions. Not taking the post in order, the most important point is that (according to Stanford fans), the Stanford admissions office does not cut athletes any breaks in deciding whether they meet the school's standards. If you don't make the grade, they just say no. That suggests to me that it's still a long shot, since she didn't get in the first time around. On the other hand, perhaps she was told she needed to do something specific to improve her academic resume, in which case the odds might be better.

My guess is that she won't go the JUCO route, in part because I can't remember the last time that Stanford took a JUCO. If she's not going to be getting into Stanford, she's much better off going to another good 4-year school. Then the question will be if she decides she likes where she is. (Or, perhaps, whether she's so mad at Stanford that the Cardinal are dead to her.) That's hard to tell.

Did anyone else see this headline from the "Scarlet Scuttlebut" site?

"Neptune's Davis Commits to Rutgers."

I was about to celebrate until I read the first sentence: "Rutgers coach Greg Schiano...." The committ was Charles Davis.

Oh well, I thought we had a verbal from Syessence. Would anyone know if Charles and Syessence are related?

LOL. Any commit is a good commit, I guess, even if it's to another team at the university. (And here's an interesting, if perhaps unanswerable question - does it make it more or less likely that she'll come to RU if she's related to Charles?)

Posted on 6/7 11:24 AM | IP: Logged

They aren't related. I had asked the same thing earlier.

Just copying my post from another thread over here so it doesn't all off the board.

I was going to do a longer post on who RU is recruiting for next year, but I'll just throw it together here.

Hoopgurlz lists 5 players in 2011 as currently considering RU:
12. Betnijah Laney. 6' Wing who lists us and UConn. She'd be a huge get.
13. Temi Fagbenle. 6'4 Wing from England. Currently playing at the Blair academy in NJ.
19. Kiah Stokes. 6'3 center from Iowa
73. Ariel Haynes. 5'11 Wing from Illinois
78. Anna Kestler. 5'5 PG From Pennsylvania.

In addition, we know that RU really really wants the Neptune duo. That is:
7. Shakena Richardson. 5'6 PG
31. Syessence Davis. 5'7 PG/2G

There is also a post player coming out of Neptune, who I assume RU has looked at as well:
79. Chyna Golden. 6'2 Post.

None of the girls from Neptune have listed any schools they are interested in. While I suppose it is possible they have no interest in RU, I'm pretty sure the RU staff is after them with vengeance.

Rutgers is also going hard after another South Jersey standout:
9. Briyona Canty. 5'9 Guard

That is 9 RU targets in the top 100. And it is almost all local talent. Talent that CVS will hopefully be able to convince to stay at home and do their state proud.

In addition, RU has been mentioned in association with:
Bra'Shey Ali. 6'0 guard from St. Michael's Academy in NY. Hoopgurlz does not list her as considering RU, but NY Post has reported her as having an RU offer.

Posted on 6/12 6:39 PM | IP: Logged

2014 target:

http://shesballin.blogspot.com/2010/07/sa-offerring-great-showing-in-july.html

LaJana Drummer. Can't find a single other thing about her online. Could be her name is spelled wrong?

Posted on 7/23 2:20 PM | IP: Logged

More on Christa Evans from Josh Newman's blog.

He also mentions several other targets: Kiah Stokes, Temi Fagbenle, Briyona Canty and Betnijah Laney. None of them is new to the list, but it's confirmation that RU is still in the mix.

Link: What Josh says

Posted on 9/8 8:04 AM | IP: Logged

I've got to check this thread out more often. And, thanks for keeping it updated folks!
btw: I suppose that HoopGurlz hasn't ever seen Evans play? Also, if you google her name and HS, you'll see some links about her from the NJ HoopGroup. They are worth checking out.

Posted on 9/8 2:32 PM | IP: Logged

Given her rating (40), I think they haven't seen her play.

Posted on 9/8 3:13 PM | IP: Logged

Christa played on the same AAU team as post players #13 Temi Fagbenle and 2011 #1 Breanna Stewart as well as #8 guard Bria Smith, so her floor time may have been limited and the Hoopgurlz scouts could have been focused on the other mentioned players.

She purposely joined the Philly Belles team to practice and play alongside the highly ranked players and, according to her comments, she competed well enough to gain the confidence to play for a major program like Rutgers. I believe that she did not win accolades from her high school season for whatever reason, and this may have affected her place on the "list."

Posted on 9/8 3:26 PM | IP: Logged

a belated "thank you" for the updates on Christa!
