Hunter Hayek breaks down Rutgers commitment

The commitments keep on coming for Rutgers and the latest came from a familiar place as Wayne Hills wide receiver Hunter Hayek will join his brother, Tyler, who is also a Rutgers commit in the class of 2017.

Hayek talked with Scarlet Nation about his commitment.

“Last Sunday my family and I had a home visit with me and my brother. Coach [Bill] Busch and Coach [Jerry] Kill came over,” Hayek said today. “They were talking to me and they informed me that they had some good news for me. They said we have a scholarship that opened up and they wanted to offer me.

“They went on to persuade me a little bit, but they didn’t really need to as I was already interested in Rutgers. I committed on the spot, but they told me I needed to get accepted first. Today, I got the news from one of the academic advisors that I was accepted and I tweeted it out.”

And what made Hayek choose Rutgers?

“I committed to Rutgers for a couple reasons. My brother is committed there and overall it makes things much easier for my parents to come and see both of us play on the same team. From when we were little, on through high school and now to college, we’ve always played on the same team,” Hayek said. “Also, I have another friend and current high school teammate in Brendan DeVera who is committed there as well. So already having a couple of friends committed there definitely helps. This way, I’ll know people right away.”

Hayek also talked about the change that is going on at Rutgers.

“Coach [Chris] Ash has a good plan and they have a good plan to turn it around at Rutgers. Coach Kill has been coaching a real long time and has a ton of experience. They told me I do have an opportunity to play at Rutgers early.”

Now that he is committed, Hayek talked about the future.

“My goals for my first year at college are just to work on my body. I would like to get bigger, faster, and stronger than I already am now. Also, I want to get on the field early and I’m eager to learn from guys Janarion Grant; maybe even play some gunner on special teams.”

Hayek is actually on campus right now for Rutgers’ Junior Day

“I’m here at Rutgers now with my family for their junior day with my brother Tyler (2017) and Jarron (2019).”
