Dontae Owens dismissed from team

Rutgers announced today the second-year wide receiver Dontae Ownes has been dismissed from the program. There was no explanation provided as to why Owens was dismissed, although he is no longer a member of the RU football program.

Owens appeared in two games last season in the ninth and tenth contests against Michigan and Nebraska.

Owens was a two-star prospect, who came in as part of the 2015 recruiting class. Owens came out of Reading High School in Reading, Pa., and had very little recruiting attention. He earned a Rutgers offer following a summer camp performance and committed shortly thereafter.

Owens was buried on the depth chart this summer and did not make a push to be among the top seven receivers. Owens now becomes the fourth member of the 2015 RU recruiting class that is now longer with the program as he joins Anthony Folkerts, Marques Ford and Jack Shutack.
