Deacs soar past Eagles
Daniel Green's layup with 1:35 left in regulation gave Wake Forest (13-15, 4-10 ACC) a 32-point advantage, its largest in the 85-56 win over Boston College (8-20, 3-11 ACC) to complete the regular season sweep against the Eagles.Winston-Salem, NC -
The game hung in the balance as BC clung to a 21-20 lead at the 8:19 mark in the first half, but Chase Fischer scored five points to engineer an 18-8 run that put the Demon Deacons in the driver's seat going into the intermission.
"Our pick-and-roll defense wasn't very good in the opening minutes of this game," Jeff Bzdelik said. "They were able to drive down the lane on us, so we called a timeout and made some adjustments on our pick-and-roll defense. We also adjusted to our post defense. It was those two factors: post defense and pick-and-roll defense that we made adjustments too, and we did a better job as the game went on."
Boston College head coach Steve Donahue did not think Wake's defense was tenacious, but the Deacs scored 22 points off the 15 turnovers they forced.
Production from the reserves dramatically favored Wake Forest as Carson Desrosiers' led the push from the pine with 13 points (4-8 FG, 3-4 3PT) and a team-high seven rebounds to give the Demon Deacons a 30-7 edge in bench-scoring.
"That's what Carson does," Donahue said. "I think if you get him playing well like that, he can be very effective for Wake Forest down the stretch here."
C.J. Harris tied his season-high with 23 points, while Travis McKie added 21 points. The most impressive stat of the day came from Tony Chennault, as he dished out four assists to zero turnovers. That contributed to the overall efficiency of the team as Wake finished with 19 assists to only seven turnovers, and shot 55.4-percent from the field.
"We did not give them easy points off bad turnovers," Bzdelik said. "We did a great job of taking high-quality shots and then we made them. It was a great effort, and I'm really for our players."
Bzdelik added that this is the most complete game his team has played this season.
