Okoro granted immediate eligibility
Following a reconsideration submission, Iowa State transfer Kerwin Okoro was granted an NCAA waiver for immediate eligibility for the 2013-14 season, the Rutgers basketball program announced.
Okoro committed to Rutgers in May after leaving the Iowa State program to return closer to his New York home in the wake of the deaths of his father and brother.
His initial request for the waiver was denied last month, but the NCAA changed its position on the matter following an appeal.
"I'd like to thank everyone who supported me these past couple of days! I'm really excited to play ball with these guys, God is great!," Okoro tweeted this evening.
Okoro scored nine points in nine games before departing from ISU. He adds to a backcourt rotation that includes juniors Myles Mack and Jerome Seagears and transfer D'Von Campbell.
With Okoro in the fold, Rutgers remains in wait for the verdict on the waiver for Pittsburgh transfer J.J. Moore and the eligibility of freshman forward Junior Etou.
