With the start of the regular season less than a week away, Scarlet Nation has confirmed with multiple sources that wide receiver Miles Shuler has decided to transfer out of the Rutgers program. Shuler was not on the practice field during the team's Thursday or Friday sessions and will now look to spend his future elsewhere.
The emergence of redshirt freshman Ruhann Peele and true freshman Janarion Grant lessened the amount of reps Shuler received over the last couple of weeks as his playing time looked as though it would dwindle this season.
Shuler came to Rutgers as a fan favorite and helped jumpstart a wild finish to the recruiting class of 2011.
The Long Branch High School product was a four-star recruit, ranked as Rivals.com's 127th prospect in the nation in the class of 2011.
During his time at Rutgers, Shuler appeared in 13 games as a sophomore in 2012 and seven games as a freshman in 2011. In those two seasons, Shuler caught five passes for 71 yards and rushed seven times for 67 yards.
Shuler's 25 yard-rush against Virginia Tech set up Rutgers' only offensive score in the 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl.
Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood is expected to comment on the Shuler situation for the first time following today's morning practice.
