March 6, 2013For the second-straight year, Rutgers football will begin its season on the road and conclude it at home.
The 2013 schedule, released today, is highlighted by two road ESPN primetime appearances, the program's first game in California since 1999, and seven contests at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway.
Trips to Louisville (Oct 10) and UCF (Nov 21) are designated as Thursday night ESPN telecasts, while the home finale against USF on Dec 7 will be televised by either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
The slate gets underway before Labor Day when the Scarlet Knights will travel to the West Coast to face Fresno State on Thursday, August 29. The two teams also met in the 2008 opener in Piscataway, won by the Bulldogs.
After facing Fresno, Rutgers will return to friendly confines for three weekends in September. The home opener arrives Sept 7 against Norfolk State, followed by match-ups with Eastern Michigan (Sept 14) and Arkansas (Sept 21).
The Scarlet Knights captured the meeting with Arkansas last season in Fayetteville, 35-26.
September 28th will be the first of three scheduled bye weeks for the Scarlet Knights, who begin conference play in Dallas against SMU on October 5.
After leaving Texas, Rutgers will have a short week to prepare for Louisville on Oct 10. It will be the seventh time the two teams have played in primetime on ESPN since 2005.
Following a bye on October 19, the Scarlet Knights will take on Houston at High Point Solutions Stadium on Oct 26, with a home game against Temple set for the ensuing Saturday, Nov 2.
The final bye of the 2013 season will be Nov 9, succeeded by a date with Cincinnati at home on Nov 16.
The first conference match-up between Rutgers and UCF is on tap for Thursday the 21st, before the Scarlet Knights travel to face rival Connecticut on Nov 30.
Regular season play concludes at home on December 7, against USF.
