Betschel making the rounds

It is still very early in the process for class of 2014 prospects but many of them will be hitting the road this spring to check out college practices. That will certainly be the case for Jackson (Ohio) tight end/defensive end Jacob Betschel. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound prospect will be in Columbus in the near future to watch a spring practice, though the exact date is yet to be determined.
"I'll be going to Ohio State for a spring practice but we don't have a date set yet," said Betschel. "I'm anxious to see how they practice and I'll be watching my position and stuff like that."
Before Betschel makes it to Ohio State, he will be taking in a practice at another Big Ten program that he is hoping to learn more about.
"I'm going to Northwestern on Friday to watch a practice," he said. "I don't really know that much about them so I'm just excited for when we go up there to look at their facilities and see what kind of school it is."
Betschel was limited as a sophomore due to his shoulder injury but managed to record 33 tackles, including eight for a loss. Now fully healthy, Betschel is hoping to have a big season on both sides of the football. As a prospect that could project to a few different spots at the next level, Betschel talked about his strengths as a player as well as the areas he hopes to get better at.
"I'm strong, I don't give up and I just go until the whistle blows," he said. "I'm working on improving my quickness."
Over the summer, Betschel will be making several stops at college camps, including a stop in Columbus.
"I know I'm going to Ohio State's camp," he explained. "I'm also going to Kentucky and Tennessee. That's all for right now that I know. I'll probably be working out as a tight end or a defensive end, one or the other."
Betschel will also take part in the Rivals.com/VTO Sports Elite 100 camp in Cincinnati on April 14th.
