Battles at the Alamo
It was déjà vu for Texas A&M Saturday. With a one-point lead Louisville had the ball with time running down on the clock. Freshman point guard Edgar Sosa put a low-percentage 3-point attempt from close to 25 feet away to put the Cardinals ahead.
Last season in a second round game with LSU, A&M was in the same position. LSU senior guard Darrell Mitchell hit the shot to put the Tigers up by one with 3.6 seconds left. LSU eventually moved on to the Final Four.
Sosa missed his shot Saturday, which is best described as the difference between seasoned senior and a panicking freshman. A&M hopes to parlay its good fortune into the same road LSU traveled and into the Final Four in Atlanta.
The Aggies must first survive the San Antonio regional at the Alamodome where they will face second-seeded Memphis in the regional semifinals Thursday at 6:27 p.m.
It's A&M's first time in the Sweet 16 since 1980. No. 1 Ohio State will play fifth-seeded Tennessee in the other semifinal.
