Dorrell talks about the scrimmage
Apparently Coach Karl Dorrell was very pleased with his team's efforts on Saturday. The effort on the defensive side of the football was good to see. The Bruins are playing at a very fast pace and could spell trouble for opposing offenses. It has been awhile since a Bruin defense played at this level. After the scrimmage, Dorrell met with the media.
"I liked what the defense did," UCLA coach Karl Dorrell said. "They tackled well. That is something that has been a real point of emphasis whenever you get to a ball carrier get him down. They did that very well.
"The offense made key play in the scrimmage late and the defense made a great defensive play by stripping the ball at around the two yard line with the receiver about to go in and that's huge. That's what you call a hustle play and is something we haven't done in a while.
"I am pleased with the effort that is going on over on that side of the ball.
"Offensively we're still struggling some in terms of the run game. I thought we would run the ball a little bit better today and weren't able to do so and that is something we have to continue to work with. That we should be able to run the ball more effectively and we will get ourselves able to do that.
"I thought the quarterbacks looked good. They threw some nice balls. Nice and crisp and pretty accurate. They are doing some things. There were some drops as you saw from some of the guys who some of our best at both the wide receiver and tight end positions, but I'm not really concerned about that.
"I'm really pleased with the effort."
