Coaches scout Elffers
Wake Forest assistant coaches Tom Elrod and Jonathan Himebauch made separate trips across the country to watch Pasadena (Calif.) Maranatha quarterback Andrew Elffers along with coaches from the likes of BYU, Colorado State, Duke, Oregon State and others.
"He [Elrod] came and talked to me afterward for a little bit," Elffers said. "I know all of the [Wake] coaches are going to get together and they're going to put on their [recruiting] board who is number one. They're just going to name the top quarterback. He really liked my throwing, so hopefully I'll be put in that category. It was a great opportunity to throw in front of him."
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Elffers, who passed for a combined 5,400 yards and 52 touchdowns the last two seasons, is waiting to receive his first scholarship offer.
Elffers said Bowling Green, BYU, Duke, Idaho, New Mexico State, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State, Southern Cal, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest are showing interest in him.
"Right now I'm not sure where I'm going to take my unofficials," Elffers said. "I'm still trying to look through all of the schools, and separate the ones that are genuinely interested in me and I'll head to those schools to visit."
Distance will not have a significant impact for Elffers when it comes time to choose a school, but travel expenses may keep him from camping at East Coast schools this summer. He plans to attend camps at Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, San Jose State and UCLA.
