EAST LANSING - The Michigan State defense was unable to cash in on easy interception on opportunity in the first half when sophomore Darqueze Dennard mishandled a poorly underthrown pass by Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson. But when Spartan defensive backs were presented with another opportunity near the five-minute mark of the fourth quarter sophomore safety Isaiah Lewis pounced.

The result was game-breaking 39-yard interception return for a touchdown that gave the Spartans 28-14 lead and a fourth straight victory over their in-state rival.

"When I first came up, I thought he was going to get sacked because he was getting a little bit of pressure," explained Lewis. "He just happened to throw up a wobbly ball and I just happened to make a play on it."

For Lewis, a first-year starter at strong safety, it was the second pick six and team-best third interception of the 2011 season.

"That kills a team," said Lewis of the interception for a touchdown. "Even if it wasn't the end of the game, a defense scoring a touchdown on an interception kills a team. It hurts them, takes away their momentum and that is what that did."
